Our PHOENIXX RODEO Inclusive T-shirts are an ode to a history once purposely hidden but unearthed and living vibrantly present day. We chose the horse and horseshoe as the main focal points, with “OG Cowboys” on the left side and the coordinates to our CCOs hometown, where she fell in love with horses through ownership of a pony in her youth and watching the Black Cowboys in the local Universities Homecoming parades.
Note:
- All T-shirts are Inclusive/Unisex; Size Accordingly
Historical Nugget:
The late 1800s saw anywhere between 5,000-9,000 Black Cowboys, a massive number that excludes their Native American + Hispanic counterparts who collectively, were left out of much of cowboy related history, novels, movies and more.
These cowboys (girls) of African, Native + Hispanic descent played a key vital and important role in herding cattle, wrangling horses and more. With rodeos first getting their start in Mexico, they became a famed source of entertainment across the southwest of the US. The appearance of + responsibility of the cowboy evolved as well. Present day, there are Black cowboys across the US with many Black Rodeos as well. Reclamation of an intentionally “forgotten” historical significance allows us to celebrate the Black Cowboys past and present.
